S-lon Thuru Kepakaru initiative was successfully held at Yahangala primary school in Hambantota on 23rd July 2018, where fifteen school children were inducted as Thuru Kepakaru to foster the growth of saplings planted by them.
The objective of the Thuru Kepakaru initiative is to indoctrinate school children to care for the environment by assigning them the responsibility to nurture trees they themselves planted as saplings.
The saplings planted by the children who were inducted as Thuru Kepakaru will be periodically reviewed by S-lon every six months, where they will be commended and rewarded based on their progress.
